Hi my name is Nakya Vogelaar
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the fastest growing combat sports in the world.
It focuses on ground fighting and submission, and is one of the best sports for mental development, especially for children and young adolescents.
Despite its many benefits, many people still hesitate to join it for many reasons.
Where should I start?
How can I be sure I feel safe?
What about coaches?
How do I even start?
Even though having questions about where to start or how to start, many people don’t realise there is a simple procedure, and many gyms are open and welcoming. Once starting, many trainers are glad they started and don’t regret their decisions in beginning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
One of these gyms in particular is Strike MMA. Strike MMA is a warm, welcoming home away from home. It’s run by Dave Johnson, a black belt under Goioere. Many coaches include Peter (a blue belt who is known as ‘The drill Sergeant’ for his training),
Chaz (a brown belt who is an expert in BJJ) and many more coaches who help you to feel
safe in the gym.
Strike MMA has been a vital part of my development. I’ve been taught discipline, resilience, respect and skills I will use for the rest of my life. It’s taught me to push through difficult times in my life and I’d be lost without the help of the gym and all the inspiring people that help out there.
